    Korean Hot Pot

Yesterday I got 32AUD from Food Court for the first working day, today after tutorial, severel hungry girls were discussing where to have lunch. Finally we decided to try a new taste——Korean Hot Pot, to tell the truth, I really don't know how to explain 石锅拌饭 in English, I saw the translation until we got to Food Plaza, just opposite to Food Court, as well as in China Town, and the small Korean Deli advertises all the hot pots with pictures and respective prices. But, I always think Hot Pot as 火锅......

So disappointed we are, the rice they provided is too little, also the pot is mini style. I rememer clearly when I had it in Shanghai, what a huge pot it was, the size was double as well as the quantity of rice and dish. Adversely, the price is half in Shanghai, if converted into RMB. So we had a conclusion, which is, we should follow Xiaoling Wang's advice other than Jessie Q's, who introduced us to have Korean Hot Pot today. In order to discribe how small the Hot Pot here is, I give you an example——For me, a person who is on diet, wanna have two pots; for a normal man, at least 5 pots which can finally meet his appetite. So, is it small eough? And, the price is 8 AUD for each (beef or chicken), if you like seafood which costs you 8.5AUD, what an expensive lunch, isn't it?

After luxurious lunch, I went to Food Court to resign the position there, the old aunt, who paid me yesterday said I was too slow to do the job and she would give me another chance to see if I can improve my working speed. Faint, I'm slow? I just seem not in a hurry because I can arrange my time and work well, actually I do the same job and complete the same task, why I'm slow? I can not just pretend to be very busy when actually there's nothing to do. Remember, it's not you who give me a chance, it's I who don't wanna give you the chance to skimp me. I made this decision after she paid me and this decision was confirmed when I went home and received the letter from Challenge, who noticed me that it had paid for my working in Clipsal 500, which is 168AUD. Can you imagine the difference? Definitely!

    Preparing for MidSemester

Tomorrow I will go to Food Court for the first working day there, from 12pm to 4pm, not so hard because those old employees told me Thursday is relatively relaxed day with less customers, if you work on Friday, oh, the only words to tell you——God Bless You!

I really want God to bless me, because the MidSemester is coming soon, which is only one week's time, and there will be 2 tests on next Wednesday and Friday, respectively. International Finance and Money Banking......which I haven't started going over, so, it's time for me to tighten myself and make full use of the rest days to prepare the tests well excluding working in Thursday. After all, money is more important than scores......

From now on, let's work hard together and make a good conclusion before the mid-semester break, just try my best and have fun as well!

    More Than One Month, Why?

I've received my second new OSHC (Overseas Students Health Cover) card this afternoon, actually I'd got the first one last week with the expiry time 06/08/2006, now which has been changed to 05/10/2006. Why give me an extra month? It is supposed to be 06/09/2006, because I applied the Holiday Credit only for one month's stay in China.

Here is a long story about the Holiday Credit——Thanks to Lulu, who told me this information. Initially, Tan and I were planning to avoid buying OSHC, both of us didn't regard it as a compulsory purchasing and if we could take care of ourselves, we wouldn't use the Health Care premium provided by Australian government so that we can save our money. For one year, we must pay 350AUD for this cover——When you get sick in Australia, where medical examination is very expensive and you can receive the financial help if you've paid, otherwise you'll spend much. So, what we want is health, and save money as well. Last year we paid the money but didn't get benefits from it because we were too strong to be sick.

One occasional chance, in G38 Lulu told me that we must pay for this because it is related to your visa's validity——Australian Immigration Department will cancel your visa as soon as they find your OSHC is expired! Oh, my god, what a serious problem it is! Thanks again, Dear Lulu, who also told me we can apply the holiday credit to extend your expiry date if you go back to China for more than one month——They won't charge you the period when you are not in Australia. And we need show our Passport on which there is the record of dates from leaving to arriving, and you also need to apply as soon as possilbe, from coming back to Australia again, you should apply within one month! Too many regulations, ha?

So, just after I paid for the next 6 month, I went to International Student Center  for the Holiday Credit last week.  And I reckoned the first new card had already on its way but they would send me a newer one for the extended month. That's why I got two cards from last week to present. It's really unexpected, in my opinion, what I hope most is just not less than one month, and now they gave me more......So lucky I am! But I still can not understand how did they make such a stupid mistake, it's impossible in China, everybody is shrewd with number problems, especially on Money! Maybe I should go to International Student Center and tell them this mistake, at least expressing my honesty, right?

    Basic Instinct

Do you know this famous American Movie which made Sharon Stone known to the world?

When I was on my way to Uni this morning on bus 172, I saw the advertisement which is newly posted on the board of bus stop. Maybe these days cinemas in Adelaide will show this film, but I think it's too old, more than 10 years ago, at least. I just searched some online information about its story and main roles, which seems exciting!

But to tell the truth, I haven't seen this movie yet, though I've been grown up for years, how come? Maybe this time I can go to have a look......for the original English version without any cutting......I'm planning to do that, and I'd better go with Tm so that we can be educated together, haha, especially for her!

Is there anyone who's seen this film and can give me some advice, or is it has another version, not the old one in 1992 but a continuation in recent years?

    Happy Ending

'It is supposed to be changed today, but all the computer systems are wrong!' David said, when he was driving us from race course and talking about the daylight saving time used in South SA. Now we have 2.5 hours' difference from Beijing Time, after next week's change, we'll have only 1.5 hours' difference.

So strange ha? Such a lazy region, how can they use summer time? Generally speaking, we change back the normal time every year on the last Sunday of March, which is just today! Our computer system has the automatic time conversion, that's why Liu Ying's friend rang her to tell about the time-changing, which made us confused, because we still used old time to start our work today!

So I think we'd better ask David for the truth, after all, he is a local and more authoritative than that young David, who is Liu Ying's friend. Thanks to David's answer, not only told us the time-changing date which is next Sunday, but also gave us the reason for computer system getting wrong——It is the 2006 Commonwealth Games hold in Melbourn, Australian, which breaks the old plan to chang time.

Actually, we can't say the computer system is wrong, which works well as usually but just can't adjust itself when something unexpected is coming......Ah......Sth unexpected? It reminds me! Just after we finished our work and went to the race course to enjoy the play-by-play atmosphere, a car crash happened......You can find the damaged car in my pictures, it seems serious and fortunately, the driver is still living, even no hurt, just a little bit depressed, then sitting on the roadside with a bottle of water, which is what I saw from the huge TV screen reporting the whole racing details.

Oh,  for me, today is the second working day for the Clipsal 500, but it's the final day for the car race. We all felt very easy during this weekend because we worked not so hard but got comparatively high pay——Just like yesterday, still 4 hours plus a big meal, haha......

    Haha......Secret Happyness

Because I'm afraid that someone important will see my diary, so it's a better way for me to use a little Chinese today!

Still get pay for waiting, waiting needs time and time is as precious as money!

I had thought we should continue to work after lunch-break, but I saw Jessie Q take her bag and prepare to leave. She told me we can finish now, so I told Tm and other guys, who couldn't believe it——Is it over? Too happy la......Yes, we even couldn't feel the hardness of the work when it should be finished. We need go back to Gate 1 to return the uniform and comfirm that we'll come here tomorrow, which is another happy day because it will be cooler tomorrow according to the weather forecast, even better than today, which is hot, at least Centigrade 33!!!!!! Fortunately, we don't have to work directly under the sunshine, we have a huge shade which is the temporary tent built as a restaurant.

When we were going out from the entrance, the nice lady asked us if we would come in again in this evening, because there will be a concert inside and we can come in freely as staffs. So ,she gave us a red sign to entitle us to come again and we also heard from another lady who's in charge of the ticket selling that tomorrow will have another concert at 4pm, which is a better time for us, after all, it can't be such hot! Furthermore, I can bring my digital camera and record all these exciting scenes......Just wait for my pictures, my friends!

The special thing I need to mention is the red sign, which makes me think back to last year's Strawberry Farm, who gave me the first red sign on my arm, which is a lovely small strawberry. I took a picture but I didn't have msn space then, and now that picture is left in China, so I can't post it now......Here, just today's picture of the new stamp!
    March 24

    Clipsal 500

An Event of Car Racing, I just heard from Challenge that I can go to the event on Saturday&Sunday, earning big money again, haha, 21AUD/hr......

Ah, I just successfully finished the online shopping on sasa.com, so wonderful, but not for me, just for terry, which gives me enough faith to do the next deal, after all, my skin care products will be used up one day, more important, I can get much money tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, why not just enjoy my life?

Btw, because today's business cost over 75USD, so they will give me free post and also a small sample for skin care. I chose the mask, which is only 5ml and I can't tell the brand, maybe it's from Switzerland......

    Anyway, it's a happy weekend......

    Friday Bus

See u again, Friday Bus! So many people crowded inside, but we can't wait for the next bus, because we must attend the lecture in time!

Dear Adelaide Metro, Don't you know it's rush hour? Why not use a bigger bus, we know it's hot these days, even though we still don't complain about the hotness inside. What we need is just a little bit space......Can't you see how did we get through these past Fridays?

Funny thing is......we take spacious brand-new bus with good air-conditioner and always see there are more than half of those seats, which are vacant......Such huge wasting of resources, can we ignore it?

It seems that Australian people still have problems in assigning and making full use of resources, maybe they are too rich to care about this tiny thing, they have enough resources but small population——That's why they don't mind at all!

    Try to Work

Today is my first day working in China Town's Food Court, just two hours training, knowing the whole process and regulations. No pay, and not hard as well. After that, I will work here every Thursday, from 12pm to 2pm, four hours' work makes 32AUD, not bad ha? After all, the job is easier than picking grapes under the strong sunshine, which gets 13AUD/hr, but too hard!!! Of course, we can't compare it to the one in Race Course, the owner is local!

Just like every novice, the old Aunt told an experienced lady to teach me how to do my job, actually it's very simple without any mental work, just do it! And I met a lovely Shanghai boy who's doing this job for a long time, at least longer than me, but he came to Adelaide last May, later than me. It seems I am so lazy, starting my job so late! He said he does this two days per week, and total hours won't extend 8 hours, so about 50AUD per week, which is enough to buy snacks, hehe! But he said it's a good way to lose weight, that's the most attractive thing to me!

After my training, the old Aunt is very satisfied and wanted to treat me lunch, but I refused friendly because I'm on diet and I had brunch this morning. She was surprised to hear that and told me do not damage your health for the sake of slimness! I konw, I know......but......I must keep on......effect has already come! If I give up now, it will turn back again!

    Expensive Conjee

    See Pictures Please!

As I told you guys yesterday, I bought a  small bag of Japanese Rice names 道明寺, which is very expensive, only 170g costs 5.80AUD !!!!So Crazy I was!!!! I didn't notice its price untill I saw the final receipt when I was paying, because I didn't reckon such a small bag rice could be that expensive!!! Also, the cashier laughted at its name, which seems like she's totally unacquainted with the groceries in their shop.

This morning I can't wait longer to cook it, actually I prepared last night, dipping some jujubes and longans overnight and cooking them with 道明寺, of course, it needs a little sugar...... So nice and so stick!!! I've got another experience——to made conjee, we do need use sticky rice, not Thai Rice! But I won't buy 道明寺 any more, too expensive, and if adding the price of jujubes and longans, this kind of conjee is a genuine luxury!!!

Next time, just Chinese Sticky Rice......
    March 21

    Townee Again!

I have to go to Central Market for my daily food, there're only several apples left at home and I can't depend on these apples to continue my life, right?Though I'm on diet, but that doesn't mean I don't need nutrition at all! Funny thing met me again this afternoon——I really felt hungry after the class, because I only had two eggs this morning. So I decided to have lunch in China Town and then go to market for some fruits or noodles. This time I went to Food Plaza, which is another place serving kinds of asian food, just opposite to Food Court.

Just when I was wandering what to eat, the man's voice attracted me——All choices only 4.50AUD!!! Really? I can't believe it, because I saw the price list which offers 6AUD, so I asked him if it's only for small size? No, Just Special for You, he said, haha, don't need to think over, just take it, at least 10 kinds of dishes ,all of which have chicken, pork or fish, and fried rice or noodles for staple food......What a big bargain again! But I still care my manners, I can't choose too much and make the plate too full, which will be teased, seems I like a refugee......But when I was eating, I heard the hostess touting a local customer, said that, special for you, only 4AUD to choose all the dishes!!!! Faint, I had thought I was treated specially, who knows......

An unexpected chance, I know the hostess of this small restaurant is from a small town which is adjacent to Changzhou, named Danyang, haha, I remember that my grandma is from that town. So, when I told her I'm from Changzhou, she was smiling and saying, we are half-townees, so funny! Of course I suddenly catched this 'kinship' to ask if there is position available for me, after all saleswoman is much better than cleaner, especially in manual working. If I can work here, obviously I can freely have the delicious food here, even with the same pay. Actually, the taste here is quite similar to that in my family, maybe because we come from the same place——There's a kind of feeling, whose name is hometown.

Ah, another interesting thing happened today. Before I report it, I do need to restate that I hate Japan and I'll try my best to reject Japanese products, but, I bought one thing which is imported from Japan——道明寺,does everyone remember that handsome name? Yeah, Meteor Garden, but here it is a special Rice Flour, haha, just have a try.Because we use Thailand rice which is not suitable for making conjee, too hard to be sticky!
    March 20

    I'm a Fish!

Can you understand what I mean by a fish? That's the new meaning I just learned it from Prison Break——Fish, just like a novice in some area, like you know that, we call those young people freshmen who are in their first year at Uni.

So, why I'm a fish? Because today is the first time for me to use Barr Smith Library, before that, I've never borrowed a book from Uni library. It sounds ridiculous ha? My friends also laughted at me, but that's the truth and it didn't impact my final scores at all. At present everything goes well!

But I just found the AE's tutorial questions, main part of which comes from the textbook, as you know, I didn't buy the textbook for saving money. That's why I need to borrow it and copy all these tutorial questions, otherwise I can't catch what the tutor says. Although, I still agree that we don't have to buy textbooks, not only because they're expensive, but also they're useless.

Copy is enough for me and even the copy I still haven't enough time to read it, not because I'm busy, but......haha, I'm lazy la......Actually, in my first semester I bought all textbooks for the courses I chose, but, I seldom read them. From then on, I've got experience——no textbook!

    Got Job Offer

Things always make people in dilemma, why?

I just received the call from Dave who wanted me to pick grapes as long as I have the full-day break, and I'd told him I might be available at Thursday but he still needs confirm it on Wednesday evening. Only one minute later, another job offer came, the old aunt who's the head of Food Court's Cleaners told me I should go there for a try on next Thursday......

So what? Sometime there's no job, but sometime too many to make a smart choice! I've also e-mailed Challenge to apply the position during the four days' event(next Thursday to Sunday) named  Clipsal 500, seems like a car racing. Maybe tomorrow I'll get the reply, so where shall I go among these three chances, happened simultaneously!

Considering the salary, picking grapes offers 13AUD/hr, Food Court only gives 8AUD/hrs. The former is relatively casual but hard, needing 7-8hours/day with the early getting-up before 6am, and only available for 2 months while the latter is more stable and  less pressue, after all, I'm intent to ask that home-aunt for help, if I don't follow her, seems so ungracious!

Hope I can work in Food Court only for half day a week, then I can assign other days to pick grapes for extra money.

    Prison Break Season 1

I just finished watching another popular TV play series, named Prison Break, which sounds evil, doesn't it? Not caring much about the problems of copy right, just download by BT, so I'm doing the illegal thing as well, but not so serious as breaking prison.

Though here it is strictly forbidden to violate copy right, even copying a textbook, which can be regarded as lawbeaking, and you can't not imagine how expensive the textbook is——for a secondhand one, at least 300RMB! No copying, how can we these poor students survive?

So, just forget it and copy or download as much as possible, otherwise I have nothing to do except sleeping——Watching TV plays is my only entertainment here, and I'm a good girl! No downloading, where shall I go......

Turn back to Prison Break, fairly amazing——either is the story or the hero, especially the guy, how handsome he is! More important, he has super high IQ, in other words, he's a genius and arranges everything properly to save his undeserved brother. My god, how could a person be so perfect? I don't think such a man can exist in the real world, people always chase perfection only because they'll never reach it.

In the first season, there are only 13 episodes without outcome, so I'm looking forward the coming stories. Hope to see it soon, dear BT men, go ahead please!

Healthy Dinner: Sweet Soup with Jujube & Longan
    March 18

For the Memory of my Grandma

Just when I was preparing dinner, my father sent me a message which said that my Grandma passed away this morning. She's already 91 years old, I'm not sure about her age, maybe 92?

So long had she lain on bed, couldn't move a little bit, tortured everyone around her including herself and finally, she shuffled off this mortal coil......

    Grandma, just go easily......

    Test My Induction Cooker

I'll go to Jessie's house, oh, no, her landlord 's house for dinner, which is a good chance for me to use my cooker carried from China. She's so happy, because her landlord always goes out with his family and leaves the house controlled by herself.

Actually, it's so pity that I had't taken the right pan, hence, I still can't use it properly except using the black iron, so weird! The pan I bought here has the different bottom which cause the cooker does't work, my hot-hot-hot plan failed again!

Last year I didn't follow my mother's advice, she told me to take the cooker here but I denied. Only when I came here and began to missed chaffy dish, I would have no chance to complain. And this time, I did agree I should take the cooker but no need the attached pan, because I think the pan here ought to be available, unfortunately, it does't! I opposed my mother's words again and got punishment! No next time......

I can't just wait and leave the cooker useless, I must find a proper pan as soon as possilble so that the cooker can start its necessary role! Not to simply buy a new pan, because I can't recognize what kind of pan is suitable for the cooker, so tricky it is——according the instructions, stainless steel is ok, but we do use stainless pan, how come? So I must try some existed pans from my friends, then I can decide what kind of pan I should buy. But if it is too expensive here, I reckon, the best economical way for me is asking my mother to mail the pan from China while she's  posting other groceries......

Sorry to bother you again, dear Mum!

PS: Back from Jessie's place, really a big dinner, because I tested my cooker successfully! Oh, I should say, I've found the right boiler, haha......
    March 17

    Sweet Mango!

    Weekend again!

I can't believe it has past the first 3 weeks of this semeter, and the Mid-term Exam is coming soon just in  Week 5, what have I learned in the past 3 weeks? Totally have no idea! But after the Mid-term Exam which is only for two relatively easy courses, we can still welcome the happy 2 weeks' break. So, happiness always occurs associated with suffering, doesn't it?

Just forget it and go to China Town,  and find something delicious bargains......Woo......I found it! Mango, so big, not knowing whether it is sweet, the only thing that looks good on me is buying it,then eating it, because it's too cheap——only 1.50AUD for each, usually bought at least 3AUD!

Ah, yesterday I saw Coles' advertisement taken back by Tm, which said Timtam is on sale again, specially, it has a new taste——Latte. Can you remeber what crazy thing I did last semester?
I bought all tastes of Timtam, correspondingly, I'd put on my weight at least by 3kg after I ate them all......That's why I bought it, only for one bag of new taste, even it's really cheap now, I can't have other tastes any more. I've tried them before and one is enough, maybe, I should assign two days to have this Latte, which only costs 1.99AUD!

Another important thing which could affect my future life is......Continue to seek a job. I went to the old aunt who is in charge of those casual workers in Food Court, and asked her if there are some positons available, but no current demand. So just leave my resume again, because this semester my timetable is not the same as last one and she must arrange my working time according my new timetable. By the way, her husband is from a small town of Changzhou, named Benniu, means Running Bull, funny ha?

    March 16

    Surprise!!!

I'm on diet these days, accurately saying, I've been on diet since last year, but there were several big meals during the Spring Festival, which broke my plan more or less. I have made a decision that I must keep back my shape during the 2nd year in SA, which sounds difficult ha? But I must try......

Sometimes I feel that even breathing here can make me fatter, maybe there is high weight of fat contained in the Australian Air, such a pity——I can eat as little as possible, but how can I live without breathing air?

Things are gonna be fine, I just found my diet helped much in these days——firstly, I can wear my old pants which became too small to lift last year; secondly, even my finger has become slimmer, because I can wear my ring easily!!!!

What a surprise!!! But I had too much in the past two days, which could constrain my development......If I hadn't, I would have been silmmer, oh, please stop eating to keep the effect!

    Don't come back, I hate you——FAT!
    March 15

    Dear Job, Where Are You?

I've really enjoyed the happiness that has been taken by working, not so hard but with incentives——Money! Money! Money! Especially after Monday's Horse Race......

In those old days, people disgusted those who were willing to risk everything at their present to get money, which is called Money Worship. But today, we should take another look on these money-lovers, in my opinion, they just realise the most fundamental element for living. No money, no life——that's the deal!

I would rather be a money-lover than a poor guy, which is also be disdained by people, even more seriously. So, during the middle break between lectures, I went to the Low Groud Floor of David Joans in order to delivery my resume that can help me to find a relatively long-term casual job.

As you guys know, I was going to  apply the positon of the Curry House in China Town, but my friends persuaded me to give up, they said working in Curry House all day could make me smelly, which really frightened me——have you read my previous article about the Beast's Smell? Terrible smell, and curry is another style of smell which tastes good only when you are eating Curry Chicken, Curry Beef or Curry Rice......

So coincidental it is——I just found the Snack Shop(I can't tell it's name, sorry!) seeking casual staffs by advertisement, which is just opposite to my Uni! The girl in the counter told me to leave my resume, before that, I had given another resume to the Lady who's the owner of A Chinese Asian Restaurant under the David Joans. I told her I can do everything including kitchen hand. By the way, this restaurant, we've ever been there several times for its delicious food and rational price. So I had my lunch here, choosing any three components and a full big plate of fried rice only costs 5.50AUD, seems more economical than Curry House, doesn't it? And, there's no smell, haha......

Anyway, it's the first  formal step for me to hunt a new job, and I will continue my seeking in the coming days. God bless me to get at least one of them, after all, these two places have the best location, which is so convenient for me to transfer from Uni to working space.
    March 14

    Luxurious Day

Going to Study Center, which is the first important thing listed on today's schedule——because I need to pay my tuition before the due date, 17th of March, coming soon......

Oh, only scaning my student ID and inserting my credit card, lightly and quickly, almost 8300AUD went out without any trace except for a receipt with my signature.

And then, I planned to go to China Town for some working chances while I was buying some fruits. But, nothing happened as soon as I saw the Curry House——A small restaurant specially sells curry rice with all kinds of curry dishes. Eventually, I couldn't help staying there and ordered a small curry chicken rice, haha, so yum, which only cost me 5.50AUD......I think I will try to get a position in this restaurant, because curry is such a great temptation for me......

A genuine luxurious day, isn't it?

PS: A good news from hometown friend——he has taken some pictures on our city center before the reconstruction of South Avenue, and later, he'll take another set of pictures on Tianning Temple and Culture Palace Square. Here I just show the first part of these pictures which are taken along the South Avenue and North Avenue, a little bit mass, really......
